keeping track of first steps...
It has been almost a full month since I officially became a junior researcher of design department at www.JANvanEYCK.nl Academie in Maastricht - The Netherlands. Together with 3 other researchers (Eleonora, Lilia & Kim) and advising researcher Florian Schneider (?link) - forming a group around the topic of Imaginary Property (IMP for short, though at JvE we are regarded as "imaginary designers").
After a brief on-line coordination in weeks before official start we decided to meet in second week of September for preliminary planing and organizing future work of both IMP@JvE, IMP-Collabs (institutions, organizations, groups, individuals...).
Our individual perspectives on what/how to work on IMP needs a lot of of syncing, so we are mostly trying to figure out each others interests based on project proposals (mine) we applied with to JvE call. Interpretation of the topic was so diverse that at times our ideas differ so much that we have trouble understanding each other. Decision to coordinate or collaborate and to which extent will probably be delayed for some time.
On the personal side challanges of leaving previous residence (closing contracts, projects and even relations) to move to a new country (with issues of figuring out accomodation, living costs, visa and residents permit) feel great to the point that feasibility of this move is questionable. However now there is no point in turning back without trying to make most out of current opportunitise...
